Meet Diana Onyejiaka Candidate for the U.S. Senate | Tennessee

Diana Onyejiaka is a longtime resident of Davidson County and is running for Congress on a platform of affordability and accountability.

Diana earned a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Tennessee State University, with minors in Philosophy and Psychology, followed by a Master of Public Administration (M.P.A.) from Tennessee State University, with a concentration in Healthcare Administration and Planning. She later earned her Juris Doctor (J.D.), where she received comprehensive training in both the Common Law and Civil Law legal systems, providing her with a strong foundation in comparative legal studies.

She is a former professor of Constitutional Law, American Government, and African American Studies, a businesswoman, and a federal mediator.

She previously served as the only U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) mediator for the entire state of Tennessee, helping farmers resolve land disputes. She also served on the Foster Care Review Board.

She brings more than 20 years of experience in regulatory compliance and healthcare, giving her a deep understanding of the legal, regulatory, and policy barriers that affect access to care.

Her campaign is centered on making life more affordable for all families by lowering everyday costs at the gas pump and grocery store, expanding access to affordable housing, strengthening and increasing Social Security benefits, protecting Medicare, and expanding access to quality healthcare. Diana supports expanding Affordable Care Act (ACA) coverage, making ACA premium tax credits permanent, and reversing the healthcare cuts that Ambassador Bill Hagerty endorsed, which left thousands of Tennesseans without health insurance.

As part of her commitment to improving maternal healthcare and reducing Black maternal mortality, Diana will introduce and fight to pass the Postpartum Recovery and Reconstructive Care Act. This legislation would ensure that medically necessary postpartum reconstructive procedures are covered as essential healthcare—not treated as cosmetic surgery—when they are needed to restore function, repair childbirth-related injuries, or address medical conditions resulting from pregnancy and delivery.

Coverage would not be limited to the immediate postpartum period, ensuring that women who continue to experience childbirth-related medical conditions years after giving birth can still access the medically necessary care they need.
